Why do people have to hate out of ignorance?

I just have to know why so many people think that it is okay to openly discriminate against me. I converted to Islam about 4.5 yrs. ago and I have been covering myself for the last 2. I have noticed a huge difference in the way some people treat me. Most people are really nice to me. Some are curious and ask questions about my dress, lifestyle, and beliefs. I welcome their questions. But, twice I've been harassed at a restaurant when I was just trying to enjoy my lunch. I had a mechanic who would make jokes to me about Islam, and he acted like he thought I should find them funny. Would you tell black jokes to a black person? I've had other problems in offices when I've been trying to take care of business. And uneducated people are always trying to quote so-called Quranic verses and hadith to me that try to show all kinds of horrible things about Islam. It's completely rediculous. The problem is that there are so many stupid people who are so insecure about their own religions that they make entire anti-Islamic websites where they literally just make stuff up. All of their 閳ユ笡roof閳?is either non-existent, mistranslated, taken out of context, or just plain wrong. I literally have tried to look some of these things up for people, and found that the so-called chapter did not even exist! The problem is that unless you are Muslim, you閳ユ獧e not going to invest to own the 10 volume collection of hadith (Bukhari) or a nice Quran, and therefore you can閳ユ獩 check for yourself. I pity the people who actually believe what they read on these hate sites. The sites should be outlawed. You know, because I totally believe that Islam is the correct religion, and I might make a website dedicated to preaching Islam, but would I make a website dedicated to disproving Christianity? No. And even if I did, then I would at least make sure that the information is accurate! So, I just wanted to know why so many people think it is okay to hate me. Have I done something to you? Why do you find it so offensive that I choose to dress modestly and keep my dignity? Nuns cover their hair for the same reason that Muslim women do, yet they are pious and we are 閳ユ笝ppressed閳? Why do you make fun of me because I pray 5 times a day? I enjoy having a constant connection to God. Why is so strange that I don閳ユ獩 eat pork? Jews don閳ユ獩 eat pork and they were the first of the people of the book. Jewish men are allowed to have beards and wear their little hat, but if a Muslim man has his beard and his kufi (hat), then he is an extremist. A good Muslim doesn閳ユ獩 drink alcohol, do drugs, or commit fornication. Statistically, our communities have the lowest number of drug use, gang activity, drunks, STDs, illegitimate babies, the list goes on and on, so why do so many people hate us when they haven閳ユ獩 the slightest idea what we believe? I welcome any questions about what Muslims believe.

Why do people have to hate out of ignorance?

The only explaination is that people fear (hate) what theydont understand. It also gives them the "right" to treat you that way. I apologize for anything that might of offended you that was said by an Native American.

Why do people have to hate out of ignorance?

I am going to be frank and honest.

Because other religions dont have extremists that hijack planes and suicide bomb and kill for their religion. Maybe i am wrong, but a lot of muslim groups are extremists that engage in violence and by their own admission do it for Allah. How can we think otherwise if we are living in fear of the next Jihadist group attack? Like the one planned for Fort Dix. We do need to educate people that lump all religious people into the extremist group, because i know and love many peaceful or what you say, true muslims. But its really the extremists fault for setting the stereotypes, not us.

I feel for you and I agree, we live in a very anti-muslim society. You have to blame the July Bombers and the Twin Towers for that. They were obviously not a good advocate for Muslims. As were the Danish cartoon protesters.

There are many people on Yahoo answers who do just what you say you would never do - Muslims who post questions condemning Christianity.

It's not a question of Islam being better than Christianity - we are all individuals and we all react differently, regardless of our religion.

It is the self-righteousness that is so galling. Yes, nuns do cover their hair, but they don't cover their faces. And that is a big sticking point for the Western women. I personally hate that - it is unecessary, not required by the Koran and IS forced on women by their menfolk, although I acknowledge that some women do it through choice.

I could point out that many Christian women - or for that matter, any women, do dress modestly. You don't have to be Muslim to know how to dress appropriately. Nor is it a requirement not to take drugs, alcohol abuse, etc.

You are right, people shouldn't make jokes. But just because you personally do nothing that is offensive, doesn't mean that all Muslims are like you.

There are problems with arranged marriages, polygamous marriages, honour killings, genital mutilations of girls, stonings, etc. And it is this that we non-Muslims feel very uncomfortable with.

Good luck with your belief. I am happy that you are confident and comfortable.

Why do people have to hate out of ignorance?

Because they're ignorant?
